As we kick off World Doula Week I am ecstatic to bring a light to what a doula is and what we do!
Doulas are an essential part of the birthing team, because you need someone looking out for you! While nurses, OBs, and midwives are monitoring you to make sure you and baby are good and healthy, we are staying with you making sure you feel safe, calm, and loved. We will be rubbing your back through contractions, getting you water, and squeezing your hips to make you feel just a little more comfortable. (I mean as comfortable as you can be) We are encouraging you, because we KNOW that you can do this even if you feel like you can’t anymore. We’re making sure your partner is taken care of, and making sure they have eaten, slept, and are feeling their best to support you as well! We don’t want to take the place of your partner, we want to encourage them to be the best they can be during these stages too! You are making this incredible change to being new parents, and you have to feel supported through pregnancy, labor and delivery, and early postpartum. After you meet your little bundle of joy, we help you set the stage for breastfeeding, and make sure you feel comfortable as you are learning these new skills of being a new parent!
